Call for Volunteers

Volunteering for WordCamp 2019 has now closed.

Why are volunteers so important? Without them, we simply couldn’t make WordCamp London the very special and welcoming event it has become.

We are calling for volunteers to take up a wide variety of roles and responsibilities which will help us make the WordCamp the best it can be. We hope you will join us in April and be part of the WCLDN family. You can be new to WordCamps or a regular volunteer, contact us through the form on this page.

WordCamp London 2019 needs you!

WordCamps are created by passionate, energetic and reliable people. If that sounds like you, then let us know you’re interested in joining our team.

If you’re thinking of being an organiser for a WordCamp in the future, volunteering will give you hands-on experience with how this type of event is run. Volunteering can be a great way to get to know the WordPress community and get stuck in if you’re new to WordCamps.

Check out some of the roles and responsibilities below to find out how you can help make this event welcoming and successful.

Volunteer roles at #WCLDN 2019

  • Building Volunteer Monitor – someone in each building for volunteers to refer to if necessary. Answer attendees’ questions about the schedule, the venue, etc, and help direct traffic to the various conference rooms. This is an ideal role for anyone who has volunteered at WCLDN previously.
  • Registration  – check in registered attendees and hand out name tags.
  • Help with the giving out of the swag.
  • Happiness Bar – help other WordPress users with their sites.
  • Room Monitor – ensure the conference room doesn’t get overcrowded; prevent noise from the doors as people are entering and leaving the room; generally be the point of contact within the room for the speakers, attendees and other volunteers.
  • Time Keeper – work with the MCs, video people, speakers, and everyone else working in the room to keep things running on time!
  • Mic Runner – during question and answer sessions, run the microphones around the room for attendees to ask questions.
  • Green Room Monitor – monitor the room where speakers and volunteers leave their belongings and help spread calm and give reassurance. One volunteer needs to be in this room at all times, so it can be a peaceful role!
  • Lunch and Dinner Ushers – keeping order in the dining halls!
  • Contributor Day – general helpers, reception, swag preparation.
  • Signage – early on the morning of Saturday 6 April 2019, we will need a team of volunteers to put up signs around the venue (there will be breakfast pastries and coffee, etc provided). At the end of the WordCamp on Sunday 7 April, we will need another flurry of activity to take down all the signage.
  • Photography – we love to showcase as much as possible and ideally want a few roving photographers to capture each talk and general feel of everything. Photographers will work with the Communications Team during the event and to upload pictures.

Please note: we ask volunteers to agree to commit a minimum of half a day during the two days – more if you want to, of course 🙂

“The volunteers are vital to every conference.

It has been a privilege to be involved with the team since my very first WordCamp in 2016, I felt so welcome and have been helping every since.

It really is a great way to join in and give something back to this awesome community,” Babs Saul
